Scholastic Bowl

By Jasmine Seitz
Staff Writer

The Scholastic Bowl Team competed Saturday, December 10, at the 25th annual Peoria County Tournament at Illini Bluffs. Both the Fresh-Soph and Varsity teams took part in the tournament.
The layout of the tournament was four morning rounds with the top two teams from each bracket advancing to the two afternoon rounds. The FS defeated Farmington in their first round but then lost to Dunlap, Elmwood, and Limestone. The Varsity Team defeated Farmington, lost to Dunlap, but was able to win the last two morning rounds against Elmwood and Limestone.
With a record of 3-1 for the morning, the Varsity Team advanced to the afternoon rounds. Also advancing were Dunlap, Richwoods, and Peoria Notre Dame. The FS did not advance with a record of 1-3.
The first Semi-Final round saw Peoria Heights playing Peoria Notre Dame. It was a close match but Peoria Heights managed to stay ahead in the second half. The last round of the day was the finals, putting Peoria Heights against Dunlap, a team they had lost to earlier in the day. The match was neck and neck all the way through, but the Heights managed a win, earning them first place in the county tournament.
Also congratulations to Duncan Ryan and Jasmine Seitz for qualifying for the all-tournament team, being two of the five top scorers in the morning rounds.
