1995 Season Review

The 1995 season ran from early October to March 25th, thus lasting six months. Fourteen students were team members at the end of the year. Varsity letters were awarded to Pat Aylward, Travis Bartell, Anthony Buecker (second year pin and captain pin), Eric Lockhart, Caitlin McLaughlin (second year pin), and Daniel Walters (third year pin). Participation certificates were awarded to Lloyd James and Jim Mahrt. In the fifteen varsity and ten junior varsity interscholastic competitions, the varsity record was 37 wins and 18 losses, while the JV record was 10 wins and 20 losses (4 against varsity). The varsity team won the first place trophy at the Indian Valley Conference tournament, came in first at the PHHS Casimir Pulaski tournament, placed third at the Peoria County tournament, came in second at Midwest Central, and finished fourth at Galesburg.

Indian Valley Conference Champions

The top varsity toss-up question answerer was Dan Walters with 203 toss-up questions answered. This is a record for a junior, surpassing the second best total of 185 by Drew Stout in 1993. Dan was named to three all-tournament teams; County, Donut, and Conference. Caitlin McLaughlin was also named to the Conference All-Tournament team. Caitlin was second with 75 correct answers. Anthony Buecker with 72, Eric Lockhart with 32 (plus 3 JV), Travis Bartell with 17, Kevin Marfell with 12, Pat Aylward with 12 (plus 48 JV), Shaun Lewis with 10 (plus 13 JV), Kevin Coffey with 4 (plus 3 JV), Kelly Zears with 3 (plus 1 JV), Jordan Maricle with 3 (plus 2 JV), Cassie Lively with 2 (plus 12 JV), Lloyd Jones with 1 (plus 2 JV), and Jim Mahrt with 4 JV rounded out the toss-up answerers. The team as a whole answered 446 questions for an 8.1 answer per quiz average. The team record is 8.4 in 1994.

Peoria Heights again hosted the (seventh annual) Casimir Pulaski Day mini-tournament on the first Monday in March. We also hosted a Frosh-Soph tournament and the Indian Valley Conference tournament this year. Thanks to the following staff and parents who assisted: Richard Bartell, Steve Hatfield, Rich Henz, Carl Lewis, Jerry Crumrine, Tom Gamboe, Bobbi Grafton, Paul and Carolyn McLaughlin, Matthew McClain, Drew Stout, Calvin Tran, Dick and Tracy Weltzer, Claudia Ulavege, John Borland, Anita Glisan, and Linda Maricle. Volunteers are welcome for the 1996 Frosh-Soph Invitational on Saturday the 13th of January and on Monday the 4th of March for the Casimir Pulaski Day tournament. Both are from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
